Steve’s career spans 30 years in a combination of Operations and Human Resources roles. He is the founder of small business partnHR, based outside of Dallas. In this role, Steve focuses on helping small organizations become big organizations by creating a strategic plan around people. As a consultant and creator of the StaHR SystemTM, Steve enables small businesses to attract, develop, and retain star talent. At small business partnHR, the singular focus is growing small business revenues by doing what business owners do not have the time to do--building their HR infrastructure and focusing on process improvement as it relates to people. Steve provides business owners with the tools, resources and time needed that results in their employees being more engaged and more productive while, at the same time, keeping the organization compliant and aware of the myriad of employment laws that exist.
Steve’s career in management started with the Marriott Corporation, which served as the foundation for many of Steve’s beliefs in managing people and getting results, even to this day. Additionally, Steve has worked in management for companies such as Winegardner & Hammons Group, Carlson Restaurants Worldwide (TGI Friday’s), Susan G Komen for the Cure, and Parkland Health and Hospital System. In these large organizations, Steve both learned about and implemented best practices, which has informed his career as a consultant.
As a consultant, Steve has worked with more than 125 organizations across many different industries, from spine products to technology companies and from auto parts stores to large job board sites. In addition, Steve has conducted more than 1,200 paid presentations in 48 states and four countries on topics such as employment law, managing people, working with different personality styles, Six Sigma, OSHA, leadership, teambuilding, customer service and communicating with others. Steve is also the author of the book “88 minutes or less…Achieving Workplace Success.” This book is written for employees to show them how to be more successful in the workplace, including tough topics like how to communicate with someone who has body odor, how to earn a better performance review, how to earn a promotion, and how to be generally happier at work. Published in 2004, this book is still as applicable today as it was then.
Steve earned a Bachelor Degree from Michigan State University in Hospitality Management and a Master of Science Degree in Management Sciences from the University of Texas at Dallas. He earned the Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) designation in 2008 and has retained his certification since then.
Steve lives with his family outside of Dallas, TX. He enjoys traveling and is a team sports enthusiast. More than any hobbies, however, Steve enjoys working.
